Perkins Board Of Education Hires PHS Alum As Treasurer

Perkins Local School District has hired a 2008 PHS alum as its treasurer. On Wednesday, the Perkins Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Brittany (Langenfelder) Keller as its new treasurer.

“It’s a great district in a great community,” Mrs. Keller said this week. “I got to see that first-hand as a student, and I’m excited to see that as an administrator and as a parent.”

Mrs. Keller, her husband, Michael, and their two daughters will move back to the Perkins Local School District this summer. Her two daughters will attend classes at Perkins – Ellie in kindergarten and Emma in 3rd Grade. She has family that lives in the district, as well. 

“My daughters are excited to go to school with cousins,” Mrs. Keller said.

Mrs. Keller will formally move into the office on July 1. The Board and Mrs. Keller have agreed to a three-year contract. 

"As a graduate of our school district, it’s especially meaningful to welcome Brittany as our new Treasurer. Because of this personal connection and having family in the district, she understands the values and commitment that make our schools special,” said Perkins Board of Education President Dr. Bradley Mitchel. “Combined with her strong experience and outstanding references, we are confident she will be an excellent steward of our district’s financial resources and a valuable member of our leadership team. We look forward to working with her."

Mrs. Keller’s appointment comes after a lengthy search for a new treasurer. North Point Educational Service Center conducted the treasurer search for Perkins Schools.

Mrs. Keller will succeed Mike Spafford, who served as Treasurer from February 2023 to September 2025. Interim Treasurer Betty Schwiefert has run the office since Mr. Spafford’s departure and will remain in the office until Mrs. Keller takes over.

Mrs. Keller is currently the treasurer at River Valley Local Schools in Marion County, which includes the villages of Caledonia, Waldo, Martel, and Claridon. Like Perkins Schools, River Valley has about 1,800 students. She has been in that position since July 2020. 

She also served as treasurer at Knox County Educational Service Center from August 2015 to July 2020. She also served as the assistant treasurer at Perkins Schools from July 2014 to July 2015. 

She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Kent State University in 2012.
