Lunch, Breakfast Prices To Increase For The 2026-2027 School Year

Prices for school lunches and breakfasts will increase for the 2026-2027 school year due to growing food and staffing expenses, and to offset a deficit in the Perkins Local School District Food Service Department.

The Perkins Local School District Board of Education on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, approved a resolution to increase student lunches at Furry Elementary, Meadowlawn Intermediate, and Briar Middle schools to $4.75 each, and at Perkins High School to $5. Breakfast at all four buildings will be $3 each. 

The Board also approved a price increase for teachers and staff to $6.50 for lunch and $4 for breakfast.

The district’s Food Service Department had an approximate budget of $1.145 million for the 2025-2026 school year and will finish the school year with an estimated deficit of more than $150,000. The deficit will be covered with money from the district’s general fund.

For next year, the department has a budget of $1.179 million. And, even with the price increases, the district projects a deficit of more than $200,000. 

The Board included in its resolution a plan to review the financial picture of the Food Service Department after the first semester of the 2026-2027 school year. Further price increases for lunches and breakfasts may be necessary.
