Meadowlawn 4th Grader Swims For Special Olympics Glory

A Meadowlawn Intermediate School 4th grader will swim for a berth in the Special Olympics state championship this Sunday.

Ten-year-old Liam Fisher will be on the blocks swimming the 25m freestyle – his favorite event – at the regional Special Olympics Meet in Oak Harbor.

“I’m so excited,” he says.

According to his mother, Olivia, if he hits his best time, he qualifies for the state meet in February in Columbus. He is a member of the Erie County Sharks, a newly formed team that practices at the Sandusky Aquatics Center.

He’s a natural at swimming, says Mrs. Fisher, and he’s been a swimmer since he was a toddler.

“He grew up with a pool,” Mrs. Fisher says. “It’s been his love; when it comes to swimming, he’s focused.”
